Cobham Tracking & Locating's ProFIND SLB2000 Receives Cospas-Sarsat Approval
July 31, 2008
Cobham Tracking & Locating is pleased to announce that its AN/URT-33 replacement beacon – the ProFIND SLB2000 Personal Locator Beacon – has received approval from Cospas-Sarsat as a special use beacon for military applications.
Designed to replace the older generation analog AN/URT-33 beacons commonly found in ejections seats and parachute packs, the SLB2000 serves as a first alert device to signal to rescue forces that an aircrew member has ejected or bailed out of an aircraft.
After careful review, Cospas-Sarsat has assigned the SLB2000 the Cospas-Sarsat type approval number 711. It was tested and approved in both "on ground" and "above ground" configurations with integrated antenna, and the "above ground" configuration with external RF and GPS cable antennas.
The SLB2000 is the first and only beacon to date designed and approved specifically for the ACES II/III ejection seat. The SLB2000 has been approved for use for both automatic electrical or mechanical beacon activation on ejection from aircraft, automatic switching from external antennas to integrated antennas, and with a newly designed ACES II/III Control/Activation assembly with built-in USB 2.0 port for remote BIT testing.
Paul Steward, Cobham Tracking & Locating's Program Director for Search and Rescue Products states:
"The SLB2000 has been designed as an advanced, environmentally hardened beacon with the singular use of aiding in the location and rescue of downed military aircrew around the world."
