Major General (Retired) Richard A. Mentemeyer Joins Cobham Tracking & Locating
August 28, 2007
Cobham Tracking & Locating is pleased to announce that Major General (Retired) Richard A. Mentemeyer has joined the company’s search and rescue division as senior advisor.
“We’re thrilled to have Mentemeyer join our organization,” says Paul Sangster, Vice-President Sales and Client Services, Cobham Tracking & Locating. “He brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge and is a valuable addition to our team of search and rescue experts.”
Mentemeyer’s initial focus is the company’s beacon program.
“I’m excited to be involved in Cobham Tracking & Locating’s beacon program,” Mentemeyer says. “Equipping people with the proper beacons could be the difference between life and death. When people go on missions in harm’s way it is important that their command and control systems have the ability to track them in real time and provide rescue capability in a timely manner if required. In my assessment, Cobham Tracking & Locating’s beacons are the best product for that capability.”
Mentemeyer enjoyed a distinguished career spanning more than 32 years with the U.S. Air Force. Immediately prior to his retirement in July 2006, he served as Deputy Commander, U.S. Southern Command, Miami, FL where he was second-in-command of one of nine unified commands under the Department of Defense.
Mentemeyer holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in business. He completed undergraduate pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base in 1975. His command assignments include the 50th Tactical Airlift Squadron at Little Rock AFB and the 19th Operations Group at Robins AFB. He also commanded the 722nd Air Refueling Wing at March AFB, the 12th Flying Training Wing at Randolph AFB and the 305th Air Mobility Wing at McGuire AFB. His staff tours include Headquarters Military Airlift Command operations, U.S. Central Command's Strategic Plans and Policy Division, and Pentagon tours as Chief of the Mobility Forces Division and Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Air and Space Operations at Headquarters U.S. Air Force.
Mentemeyer was a command pilot with more than 4,000 flying hours in the T-1, KC-10, KC-135R, C-130E, C-21A and T/CT-39 aircraft. His military awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and many others.
